SUMMARY:Simon Weir - ‘Beyond Visible Light – A Journey Into Infrared Photography’
DESCRIPTION:Discover the fascinating world of infrared photography where images are made from invisible light\, producing an alternative view of reality! \nThis inspiring talk looks at the history\, science and art of infrared (IR) photography over the last 100 years. \nIt covers the discovery of ‘invisible’ light\, the invention of IR films and their many civilian and military uses\, the move to digital camera conversion and even a moment of space exploration! \nAlong the way Simon explains the pitfalls of working with invisible IR light and showcases the work of IR photographers from around the world. You’ll also get to see his wonderful portfolio of images taken over the last 20 years. \nAfter spending his earlier career as a record producer in the classical music industry\, Simon now specialises in filming and photographing live performance\, contextual portraiture\, wildlife and nature. Alongside this\, over the last 20 years\, his lifelong love of black & white imagery has found a voice in the form of IR photography.   \nUsing specially modified cameras Simon captures scenes entirely composed of invisible IR light\, producing an alternative view of reality –  beyond visible light.

SUMMARY:Paul Sanders - 'Life In The Slow Lane'
DESCRIPTION:(As well as access to the live event\, you will receive a link to the recording\, which will be valid for 14 days) \nHas modern photography lost its way as we all clamour for validation? – let’s look at the motivation for the photographer without judgement. \nLearn from this deeper exploration of what motivates the photographer and the fears we have as creatives. \nIn a world where we are forced to consume\, it takes courage to step back and give back\, appreciate\, and celebrate without need for reward or kudos. \nIt’s a marriage of philosophy and photography\, a celebration of wonder and awe at the imperfection that tells a story\, but we try so hard to erase. \nPaul’s approach to landscape photography is one of mindful connection. \nHe talks extensively about his switch from digital to film and to pinhole. \nAfter looking at nearly 20\,000 images every day during his years at the Times\, his own work is made in response to his emotional and spiritual reactions to the locations he visits and reflect the sense of stillness and calm he feels whilst on location. \nPaul’s\, beautiful\, highly reflective work has been exhibited widely across the UK\, Europe & Japan.

SUMMARY:Mark Littlejohn - 'The Romance Of Landscape Photography'
DESCRIPTION:(As well as access to the live event\, you will receive a link to the recording\, which will be valid for 14 days) \nLearn why Mark ignores books & YouTube\, he follows his heart & photographs the things that move him\, that make him smile or shout and swear! \n“I was a detective for 26 years and took up photography quite late in life. In some respects\, I wish I’d taken it up sooner\, but in others I’m happy I came to it later. \nIt allowed me to do things the way I wanted to. I live with my wife and dog 150 yards from a beach in a remote corner of the Highlands. I run the occasional workshop and the majority of my time is spent doing things that I enjoy. \nMy talk is really about passion. If we feel no emotion for our subject\, how can we expect anyone viewing our images to feel any emotion. It’s about capturing moments as opposed to creating them.” \nMark is a previous winner of the Take-a-View UK Landscape Photographer of the Year\, and during the last few years eleven of his images have received Judges Commendations in the awards\, along with two being highly commended and another image being runner up in the Classic View in 2015. \nHis work has been featured in a variety of national magazines and he has also written several articles in relation to landscape photography and his particular approach to it. \nHe prefers the less popular view and concentrates his efforts in the earlier part of the day. He sees little point in constantly travelling in search of exotic locations\, when quite often a beautiful image can be just around the corner from your own front door.

SUMMARY:Alex Kilbee – ‘The Art Of The Re-start: How I Found Myself When Losing My Way In Photography’
DESCRIPTION:(As well as access to the live event\, you will receive a link to the recording\, which will be valid for 14 days) \nDiscover how Alex’s journey took him from student photographer to hosting YouTube channel ‘The Photographic Eye’ with 180\,000 subscribers. \nAlex moved from the UK to South Africa when he was nine\, he was later invited to join the Army for two years. \nInstead\, he fell into the welcoming arms of Pretoria Technikon Photoschool where he discovered that he was reasonably good at photography.\nSince then has worn many hats – from wannabe Rock ‘n Roll photographer to trying to get new-born babies to sleep for their portraits. \nA frustrated architect at heart\, Alex always preferred photographing buildings to people\, but until Covid closed his studio he was creating award-winning portraits. \n\nThe closure of one door was the opening of another. In 2020 Alex started a YouTube channel called The Photographic Eye where he just chatted about the photography that he got a kick out of. A huge number of people enjoyed what he had to say\, and now there are over 180\,000 subscribers. \n“This talk is based on my journey as a photographer over the last 30 years. I flitted from one idea to the next in the hope that at least one of the fads I was chasing would lead me to instant recognition.\nAt various stages\, I have fallen in and out of love with photography both as an interest and a career. \nI offer this talk as a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of losing the WHY at the heart of photography. – that weird urge we get to see things photographed (as Garry Winogrand put it). \nI hope that this inspires people to help discover their own path through photography which leads them to create images that not only are they proud of\, but that came from their soul.”

SUMMARY:Charlotte Bellamy - ‘Creating Cohesive Projects'
DESCRIPTION:(As well as access to the live event\, you will receive a link to the recording which will be valid for 14 days) \nWorking with a set of multiple images can convey a story\, sense of place\, feeling\, or emotion in a far stronger way than one image alone. \nLearn how Charlotte has used the concept of ‘cohesivity’ and ‘projects’ in all her work since submitting and achieving her Master Craftsman qualification (the highest accolade with The Guild of Photographers) \nHave you ever wondered about creating groups of images?\nEver questioned why you would want to\, or how on earth you might get started? \nRather than thinking of images individually\, Charlotte now works to create groups of images. This can be useful for qualifications\, the creation of albums online or for books\, exhibitions\, magazine submissions or just to give yourself an alternative way of working. \nCharlotte will guide us through the whole process from how to identify the elements needed for cohesivity to occur and show how she uses this in her everyday practices as well as giving tips to jump-start your projects. \nCharlotte is a panel member and judge with The Guild of Photographers in the UK. Her images have won numerous awards including ‘all round photographer of the year’ two years running with The Guild. Her work has been published in the ‘Creative light’ and ‘On Landscape’ online magazines and in ‘Cameracraft’ magazine in the UK.
