DESCRIPTION:(As well as access to the live event\, you will receive a link to the recording\, which will be valid for 14 days) \nTim will introduce us to the historical significance of competitions in the art world\, focusing on contemporary photography competitions. \nFrom the Salons of France to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition\, photographers and painters have always competed to find a place for their work. \nHe will discuss many aspects of modern photography competitions\, specifically the Natural Landscape Photographer of the Year competition and book. \nYou will understand the potential advantages and driving forces behind participating in photography competitions. \nTim is a landscape photographer and editor of the landscape photography magazine\, ‘On Landscape’. \nHe uses a mix of film and digital cameras but mostly film in small\, medium\, large sized format. \nPhotography was a childhood interest\, but he left it for computing. He later returned\, captivated by large-format cameras. Despite their cumbersome nature\, he found them empowering\, allowing for greater control and a more deliberate approach to image-making. \nHe believes photography is a tool for self-discovery and a means of deeper connection with the world. By slowing down and paying attention to the details\, you can capture the essence of a moment and relive it through the lens.

When the blur is created intentionally by moving your camera\, lens or both during a long exposure. \nIntentional Camera Movement (ICM) embraces the power of play\, flexes creative muscles\, and can lead to unique and unusual images. \nIn these fascinating sessions\, you’ll find out how to add creative blur when capturing still subjects by shaking\, twisting and/or zooming during long exposures. She is proud to have won both an individual silver medal\, and British team gold medal\, in the worldwide FIAP biennial print competition. \n\nHer photos have been published in books and newspapers\, and one image has even been used as a phone card. She also works as a digital imaging specialist for a photography company.

DESCRIPTION:(As well as access to the live event\, you will receive a link to the recording\, which will be valid for 14 days) \nJoin award-winning photographer\, Mark Littlejohn\, on his journey from ‘reactive’ to ‘creative’ and see how an old dog can learn new tricks! \n\nWhen Mark first started landscape photography\, he lived near the Eden Valley and the Lake District – both well-known areas of outstanding natural beauty. \n\nHe admits to just wandering around\, pointing his camera in the general direction of all that beauty and pressing the shutter release every now and then. \n\nPeople loved his images and would call him creative. But he always denied this\, saying “I’m not a creative. I’m a reactive”. \n\nHe says this was because he reacted to the beauty around him. He’d never had to look for it. It was just there. \n\nBut when he moved to another outstanding area of beauty\, in the highlands of Scotland\, he was not taking the same pictures. \n\nHe was focussing on small scenes of reeds and kelp. \n\nHad he become creative? Had it been possible to teach an old dog new tricks? \n\nMark is an award-winning photographer based in Wester Ross\, Scotland. His work has been featured in a variety of national magazines and he has also written several articles in relation to landscape photography and his distinctive approach to the genre.
