The Swedish legend has turned his love of wildlife and landscapes into a hugely successful career, with artistic flair and a love of mono.

In the first half of this session, you’ll gain insights into Mats highly creative images, including his sources of inspiration and ICM.

In the second half, he’ll share his personal photos and stories from his seven trips around the ‘fairy island’ of Iceland. You’ll see he’s captured some of the most famous places – but still manages to create incredibly beautiful, unique images.

Mats work is widely respected and admired. A recent quote from Black + White Photography magazine describes it best:

‘At first glance, it’s hard to distinguish whether a Mats Andersson print is a painting or photograph. He blends the abstract with the surreal, resulting in landscape imagery that can simultaneously evoke feelings of unease, tranquillity, forbidding and calm. His style is instantly recognisable, a dark, gritty, analogue look with deep blacks, a rich grain structure and often plenty of motion, which contributes to his painterly style.’

Mats studied photography at the Industrial Art School in Gothenburg, followed by a job as Art Director and Photographer in the advertising industry.
Since 1989 he has worked as an AD and Photographer at Concret Advertising in Sweden. Mats is a Leica ambassador in Scandinavia and has published 13 books.
