£ 8.00
Unlimited

See how working towards an exhibition or photobook can give your photography greater purpose, direction, creative depth and lasting impact.

(As well as access to the live event, you will automatically receive a link to the recording, valid for 28 days)

Discover how setting a clear end goal can change the way you approach a photographic project, encouraging you to look more closely, work more thoughtfully and develop a deeper connection with your subject.

Drawing on three major projects – Margaret Soraya – Quiet, Within Hebridean Seas and Shaped by the Sea – Margaret will share how she consciously worked towards an exhibition while creating a photobook alongside it.

See how the discipline of preparing work for an exhibition influences what and how Margaret photographs, the decisions she makes as a project develops, and how creating a carefully considered book can give the work a life, long after the exhibition has closed.

Margaret will also explore how her latest project developed beyond photography to incorporate painting and poetry, and how bringing other forms of creative expression into a project can open up new ideas and possibilities for your own photography.

Whether you have an existing photographic project or simply an idea you would like to develop, this talk offers a fascinating insight into taking a body of work from its first beginnings through to exhibition and print.

Margaret Soraya is a professional photographer based in Geocrab on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. She has photographed the Hebridean landscape for more than sixteen years and now owns and runs her own gallery. During her 22-year professional career, Margaret has held multiple solo exhibitions and published four books, most recently Shaped by the Sea, launched alongside her June 2026 exhibition. She also leads photography workshops and creative retreats on Harris and founded the biennial Creative Light Festival. Her work explores place, solitude and the Hebridean sea.
