Join inspiring tutor and creative photographer, Cherry Larcombe, as she explains and demonstrates making fabulous Still Life images, live!
A series of 4 workshops showing in detail, using live edits, how she produces a finished image – from start to finish.
The emphasis is on the “before” and “after” and what may be involved with making a particular image, rather than just concentrating on the mechanics of any one tool.
Many Photoshop techniques are used in every workshop, and include using layers, layer masks, blend modes, opacity, white layers, inversion and with emphasis on cropping and composition.
Many ideas to inspire you to try interesting ways of creating a still life image. Presentation tips to complete your image, such as using textures and key lines are explained.
The features included in each workshop are subject to change, as Cherry likes to include up to date work that may offer extra aspects.
- Session 1: Introducing my gear, subject matter and where to source it. Explaining my style of ‘simple Still Life’ and how to use natural light indoors. Showing the importance of your background and colour combinations, together with reflections, can add interest to your shot.
- Session 2: How using texture can enhance and add atmosphere to your still life image. How and where to create it. Capturing outside light to use indoors. Working towards a botanical style image and adding some text. An easy way to create a Pep Ventosa image indoors. Creating a simple composite using layers.
- Session 3: Using kitchen foil to create a unique looking still life. Creating a mono still life and taking it a step further by inverting your image. Making use of the Twirl filter in Photoshop to create some attractive shapes. Easy ways to create a triptych with your still life images.
- Session 4: Using the colour replacement tool in Photoshop to tone with other elements of your still life. Explaining an attractive way of framing your image. Using your light pad to bring out the detail in the petals of some white flowers. Combining something sentimental with your up to date work to produce something meaningful and unique. Ending with putting together a composite using many of the techniques covered.
