This four-part series of workshops has been designed to help photographers build confidence and fluency in the free Affinity application.
James Ritson, part of the software development and research team at Affinity, will lead these workshops.
Affinity is a free-to-use, complete post-processing environment, he’ll explain its background, core principles, and how its tools are designed to support thoughtful, non-destructive image making.
Session 01
Introducing Affinity: what it is, what we’re trying to achieve, an overview of our latest update, then a demonstration of some typical functionality (RAW editing, layers and masking, HDR merging and tone mapping, stacking). Finally, a look at new functionality and features, some of which will be explored over the next three sessions.
Session 02
An in-depth session focusing on typical image editing workflows from start to finish, e.g. initial RAW development followed by layer-based retouching, then final sharpening/cropping and exporting. We’ll explore non-destructive editing as a concept and how to achieve it within Affinity.
Session 03
Looking at more esoteric workflows such as working with HDR images (exploring the different ways you can tone map, how to avoid pitfalls of 32-bit linear compositing) and wildlife photography (making the subject of image more prominent, noise reduction, editing distractions).
Session 04
Techniques for processing low light imagery (initial RAW enhancement, non-destructive dodging and burning, colour manipulation, stacking) Review of the 4 Tuition Sessions and outstanding issues and questions.
