Learn why Mark ignores books & YouTube, he follows his heart & photographs the things that move him, that make him smile or shout and swear!

“I was a detective for 26 years and took up photography quite late in life. In some respects, I wish I’d taken it up sooner, but in others I’m happy I came to it later.

It allowed me to do things the way I wanted to. I live with my wife and dog 150 yards from a beach in a remote corner of the Highlands. I run the occasional workshop and the majority of my time is spent doing things that I enjoy.

My talk is really about passion. If we feel no emotion for our subject, how can we expect anyone viewing our images to feel any emotion. It’s about capturing moments as opposed to creating them.”

Mark is a previous winner of the Take-a-View UK Landscape Photographer of the Year, and during the last few years eleven of his images have received Judges Commendations in the awards, along with two being highly commended and another image being runner up in the Classic View in 2015.

His work has been featured in a variety of national magazines and he has also written several articles in relation to landscape photography and his particular approach to it.

He prefers the less popular view and concentrates his efforts in the earlier part of the day. He sees little point in constantly travelling in search of exotic locations, when quite often a beautiful image can be just around the corner from your own front door.
